RA: Kitchen Is Code

Taking pity on the ESL hash that nobody ran a few days ago, STD decided to use what little good parts of the trail there were: the beginning and the end. With perfect timing, Midget and I stepped off the bus just before 8pm at Triangle Park. Shortly after the Hare was away and we sang a new song. That Sir Jasper is apparently pretty good at what he does because she changed her mind about him pretty fast. A quick mention of the benefits of DayQuil, and the pack was away.

We found our way up into the maze of paths and walkways. Jumping off a rock wall into the street I noticed it was starting to rain, and it wasn’t long before we were sliding down into a small hole in the sidewalk under the chain link fence and shiggy bound. Straight up a hill and onto another road, down the hill and up the mother of all stair cases.
– At this point, the pack was spread so I decided to keep the pack together and waited for Ménage (not that I needed a break or anything…). I commented on how we should stick together because you never know what you might run into. Shortly after hitting the top of the stairs I followed some secrets to an outside workout area where a naked man was “working out”. I must have disturbed his alone time because as I continued to look for the trail he grabbed his clothes and left without even putting them on.stdmay1

Getting close to the Namsan tower I stopped for a picture (no selfies). Luckily the FRB had chalk and marked a bad trail. As we headed down the hill on the walking section of the road I realized I could run and slide due to the rain, until I hit a dry spot. After almost eating asphalt we came upon a view and more pictures were taken of the city at night. The trail went back into the shiggy and the rain slowed us down even more. Overconfidence and wet rocks made sure I didn’t stay on my feet the whole time…

Slow and steady, we made out way back onto the pavement, and caught up to another member of the pack (we like to think he got confused by the ESL hash marks, or found some more sex on trail). The rain was coming down harder and trail was becoming more difficult to find. The luring smell of a Pizza School almost made us stop in, almost.
– Around the next turn, the FRB and the Hare had come back for us, and led us back to circle. We thought the rain had washed away all the remaining hash marks, but turns out the hare had gotten so close to being snared that he went all ‘Black Ops‘ (turned off his headlamp) and booked it back, leaving few, sparse, and tricky trail marks.

In circle, stories were told about how the hare was almost snared, falling down in complete darkness, and the encountered naked people. Since more people showed up while the pack was away Sir Jasper made a comeback to please his lady friend. Cups filled with beer were arranged in a Delta (triangle) formation and select members of the pack were called up to play a special STD version of FlipCup: stdmayPushups followed by drinking and flipping 3 cups without using your hands. After much argument (flip cup arguments get heated…) a judge was called in to moderate. C3PH was asked his drunk opinion and he eliminated all but Ménage. She won the coveted bottle of Red’s Apple Ale.
– Most of the pack was wearing our new STD shirts so we finishing circle by reading the STD creed together as a pack and headed to Bonnie’s for some much needed food (and more beer).

hash trash: STD, 3/26, by MVB

Seoul Team Delta Hash started with a very relaxed vibe. With us talking, laughing, and drinking. I was unaware of what was to come. The hash was at nighttime so I brought a headlamp, and had that sucker pulled so tight on my head that I now have a unicorn horn from the bruise. I went to this hash knowing I would be the slowest runner and I was not getting lost!

The hares away’ed; and we followed. We were going past old trail marks and I was enjoying the relatively easy trail… or so I thought.
– Red chalk. Yes, the hares used red chalk! The funny thing about red chalk is it blends in with the road at night. Unless you shine your light directly on the hash, you will miss it easily. And miss it, we did…..multiple times. But as the slowest, it gave me time to catch up.

Shiggy. Shiggy is very interesting. This was my first mountain shiggy. Okay, so it wasn’t through the mountains but at night those hills are mountains. As someone with no depth perception, these hills were the equivalent of a water slide. And hills we did for what seemed like miles. During the day, these trails are probably no problem, at night with roots and evil pine needles….these trails are definitely for the adrenaline hash junkies.

Returning to VFW, [FRB was Zimbab4way, eh] we earned our beers, drinks and the 2,000 Won (approx. $2) shot special. Circle was hardcore with the hares showing us how STD drinks (from now on?).With modified burpees, the hares down-downed with ease, and set the tone with planks and wheel barrow down-downs. I am excited to see what down-downs will bring at the next hash.

Honestly, this hash was perfect. Hump day really sets the tone for the rest of the week. The difficulty of the trail and laughter we had, really released my stress. Can’t wait until the next STD Hash.

STD; Wednesday 3/19

Instructions were given to make it to the VFW in HBC at 8pm, and plan for an elite, kick-some-ass-trail, up and down mountains, and longer than a wussy 5k…

I hobbled into the VFW, hoping to offer my expertise as a bag-sitter, which apparently everyone else was planning to do as well. Oh well. The bar had a shot special, and we enjoyed some hasher bonding (not bondage…).

Promises were made that next week, or the week after, the STD was really going to run again, and be a pretty intense trail. Hopefully at least as intense as that shot special.
